Essential Tips for Choosing Pipe Fittings

Correctly Match Fittings with the Correct Tubing (Poles)

Have you ever struggled to match tubing and pipe fittings correctly? Understanding the relationship between tubing and fitting dimensions is crucial for a successful installation. Let's dive into the key factors to consider when matching tubing and pipe fittings.

Diameters of Fittings & Tubing

When it comes to tubing and fitting dimensions, things may not be as straightforward as you expect. Tubing outside diameters are typically larger than the nominal size. To accommodate this difference, the openings of fittings ( ID)* are designed to be slightly larger than the actual tubing size they are intended for.

For example, a fitting labeled as 3/4" actually has a 1" inside diameter (ID)*. This sizing allows a 3/4" EMT, with an actual outside diameter of 15/16", to fit inside the fitting seamlessly. Refer to the table below for more detailed information:

*Fittings ID: Inside Diameter of the fitting

*Tubing OD: Outside Diameter of the tubing used for the specific fitting size

Remember, ensuring the proper match between tubing and fittings is essential for a sturdy and efficient system. By understanding these nuances in dimensions, you can avoid common installation issues and ensure a secure connection. Always better to use the recommended tubing for your project!
